L.A. Now is reporting that UC Regents voted today to increase fees by 9.3%.
"I don’t know where else to go. I
simply do not know where to go," UC President Mark G. Yudof said of the
fee hike.
The UC's law schools, already some of the more expensive public law schools in the country, will see the same increases as undergraduate institutions, according to an SF Gate article from last week on the then-proposed increases.
A 9.3% increase at Berkeley Law (using date from its website to determine current tuition levels) will result in $2,877.79 more in fees per year, putting the total dollar amount at $33,821.79 annually. A 9.3% increase at UCLA will result in a $2,864.68 increase from an annual tuition amount of $30,803. (UPDATE: this figures are incorrect, please see note at the bottom of the item.)
Yudof has been quick to point out, however, that because of federal stimulus money and other government programs incentivizing post-secondary education, the 2009-2010 school year could be among the richest ever when it comes to doling out financial aid. Unfortunately for you all, most of the programs he's talking about (including Cal Grants and UC grants for low income undergrads) aren't for law students.
UPDATE: Thanks to a reader for sending this in: looks like the fee increases agreed upon by the Regents will be even more than 9.3%. Each of the UC law schools will be implementing a different fee increase, ranging from 13.4% (UCLA) to 19.3% (ouch, Davis). Berkeley Law is ringing in right in the middle at 15.8%. A full breakdown of the fee increases can be found here. Hastings fee increases were announced back in January, and can be found here. I spoke with Dean Nell Newton on the phone late on Friday, and while she clarified that indeed Hastings did announce its fee increases back in January, she "can't promise nothing else will happen" to the cost of attendance, were the state legislature to "dramatically" cut funds during a budget revision.
These well-known UGG Classic Cardy are now becoming more and more fashionable and popular, to some extent. I believe you may ask what the shoes can bring us. As I know, if one person struck by lightning in Holland, his family must put all his Classic Cardy Boots up as soon as possible. And in the fairy tale, the shoes are more magic indeed. Now, I always say that the UGG Classic Cardy Boots are so magic and popular.http://www.uggscardy.com
