A few people have mentioned that I was kind of hard on law professors in my item on Proposition 8 a couple weeks ago. The point of the item wasn’t really to place the blame on law professors, but maybe that’s how it came across.
At any rate, since I always strive to present a fair and balanced picture of any group that has the power to affect my grade point average, I thought I’d post something positive about law professors to even things out.
A
couple of days ago, by way of Brian
Leiter’s Law School Reports, I saw an item
on Hunter of Justice listing
the appointments our nations best connected brightest law professors are
getting on Obama’s transition and review teams.
You probably already read in The Shark about UC Berkeley Dean Christopher Edley’s placement on Obama’s Transition Advisory Board. (Aside: Considering his wife is a Clintonite, is it unreasonable to suggest Edley is lobbying Obama to appoint her Secretary of State to calm the waters at home?) But, here are the other California highlights from the list:
- Cruz Reynoso - UC-Davis Law, emeritus - Commission on Civil Rights team co-leader
- John Leshy - UC-Hastings Law - energy and natural resources review team
- Goodwin Liu - UC-Berkeley Law - education and labor review team
When the president-elect is a former law professor, and the vice-president–elect is a former law professor, I guess you can expect many of their appointees to be law professors. Congratulations to all involved, but let’s not forget about that whole Prop. 8 thing either, eh?
