If gossip blogs are having a positive impact on attorneys at large law firms, what impact would they have on students at law schools? Blogs like Above the Law provide vital information to would-be firm lawyers (information on things like associate pay raises, partner profits, pro bono work, and charitable contributions) that make their job of choosing the right firm easier. Can’t the same model be applied to law schools to help would-be law students?
There is certainly a demand for it. As an 0L I spent a fair amount of time trolling the message boards at Law School Discussion and XOXO, and though I wish I could get those hours of my life back, I did get a good crash course in law school lore and rumors. The problem with these mediums: most of the people providing the content are not law students. This means that most of the information found there was in fact misinformation/conjecture.
How great would it be if there was an Abovethelawschool website that exposed all the dirty (and not so dirty) little secrets of law school? Contributors could be anonymous law students telling The Truth about what their law school is like. If I weren’t so opposed to bringing controversy in my life, I’d start it myself.
Ed note: Although we here at The Shark are (mostly) above rumor and conjecture, please be assured that we will never deprive you of juicy yet verifiable news. We've got your back.
